Have you ever dreamed of staying at a real lighthouse? Now you can. Explore nearby tidepools, and beaches, hike Montara mountain, and use the hostel as your base as you explore nature and encounter marine mammals and birds. Make your dreams a reality on the beautiful California Coast!

Pt. Montara is the ideal location for tide pooling, hiking and sea kayaking. That’s exactly what you’ll get to enjoy when you sign up for this getaway. Depending on the time of year, you may see gray whales migrating, harbor seals playing offshore or seabirds migrating on the Pacific thruway.

After a long day exploring the coast, relax at the hostel on the grounds of the historic Pt. Montara Lighthouse and meet people from all over the world. You can discover other cultures just by hanging out in the hostel dining room. There’s no better way to get to know an international traveler than by sharing a meal with them! You don’t have to complete the Girl Scout Destinations Application Form for this event. Just contact the event sponsor to sign up. Remember to notify your local Girl Scout council that you are traveling.

Outdoor clothing/lots of layers for changeable weather along the coast, synthetic sweater for kayaking

Sunscreen, hat and sunglasses with retention strap

Sneakers/hiking shoes and shoes that can get wet while kayaking

$140 - $180 per participant (prices vary depending on type of kayak trip chosen). Pricing subject to change after March 31, 2015.

Includes: Two overnights at the Pt. Montara Lighthouse hostel, a guided kayak trip with instruction at Pillar Point Harbor, and Girl Scouts Go Hostelling patch. The hostel has a full kitchen to prepare meals as a group, and grocery stores and restaurants nearby.

Additional overnights and activities (such as horseback riding, surfing, or an Outdoor Hostel Adventure) can be added at an additional cost. Transportation to and from Montara, California not included. Inclement weather cancels kayaking and a refund for that portion of the getaway will be issued. You must be 12 or older for the kayak portion of the Getaway. Hiking can be substituted.
